This paper uses the term “syntonization” to refer
to frequency alignment of network clocks. This
functionality is also commonly called “timing
synchronization” and “frequency synchronization.”
When discussing phase and time-of-day alignment
of clocks, this paper uses the common industry
terms “phase synchronization” and “time-of-day
synchronization.”
